8 Character Facts: 'Nanuk'

to info drop on a character! It's been awhile since I did one of these/had a journal in general so I figured why not?

4. Write the name of the character with its owner.

Here we go with my OC "Nanuk"

1. "Nanuk" is actually a recycled/revamped character of mine, which some my older watchers and friends will recognize, namely by his hair color and the earrings/clasps. He has a new name and story but general personality and appearance is the same. He is part of my retelling of another fairy tale (I have a few).

2. "Nanuk" the nickname given to him by the heroine in his story, Bearings/East & West. It means "Bear" in Inuit which what my heroine's culture and ethnicity is based on (if the story is not set in our world, per fantasy). He goes by it for some time until he reveals his real name to the heroine, his traveling companion after some trust has been built and certain circumstances have come up. He has a few aliases given he travels a bit.

3. His outfit is chiefly inspired by traditional Mongolian attire (a deel) as that's what his ethnicity and culture is based on. He's from the East in contrast to the heroine who's from the West. During his travels his outfit gets a bit ragged and torn, making him look a bit scrappy and ambiguous with his origins.

4. He is current owner of the Mask of the Bear King via theft. The mask is a powerful artifact that harbors the spirit of a sentient giant polar bear whom is known as King/the Bear and allows the wearer to assume his mighty form. The mask also grants other powers such as understanding languages and protecting the wearer from the cold, though it has limits on severity of chill. The spirit can speak to the current mask wearer, acting as a guide and conscience/moral compass. While King does not approve of how the mask has been obtained he respects "Nanuk's" reason but is bound by rules tied to the mask, set by the creator and the Master whom the Bear serves.

5. The only visible scars on him are on the lower part of his face and neck. These were not obtained from adventuring and getting into a few scuffles. He has a few others that are hidden which are tied to his past, which he is always trying to outrun.

6. Though he carries no weapons on his [present] person "Nanuk" is trained in swordplay and archery along with horsemanship. He was raised learning how to hunt and fight but due to circumstances before the story he is without any traditional weapons. He's been trained in hand to hand combat and relies on this when he cannot immediately call upon the mask's power.

7. "Nanuk" has a fondness of animals and has a healthy respect for them. However he has no reservations for killing for survival (whether as food or to defend against), though he is merciful and weighs his options. Unfortunately for him ever since getting in possession of the mask most animals seem to sense the power and are wary of him despite his friendly demeanor.

8. He has two seemingly "Caucasian" features: hair color and eye color. His hair, nearly white blonde, is a natural mutation and also in part randomized genetics. There are real life tribes and clans from around the world of various ethnic groups with blonde and even red hair. Though his eyes are unseen due to the mask, save when close enough, they are blue which is another natural mutation and part certain genetics surfacing.

Art + Writing Commissions [Open]

My commissions are open indefinitely for now due to various living expenses and always needing a bit of extra cash.

Until I get a proper image sheet to show what I offer here's a list:

~ART:

Icons/Avatar Commission

~Pixel Heads: all 50x50px, made via pixels with a limited color scheme and shading.

*Price: $7 (one mouth expression, no blinking) [+$2 for each special additions/ more than two expression changes (ex: smirk to smile to frown+blinking, moving head, special element (music notes, question mark, (...), sleepy z's)]
*Examples:

~Chibis (biped/2 legged characters)
Made from felt fabric and polyfiber stuffing, hand sewn & hot glue gunned, puff paint for some details/eyes. Roughly 8 inches tall, give or take a few inches. Plushies are created using a custom pattern I created. If you wish another size there's extra cost for making a new template. *Must have a reference for front and back, or else I'll charge you extra for character design)

If your character has a complex design more material is used to create it (example: Transformer characters) so there is an extra charge. I have written various self projects and paid projects, including for visual novel games and comics. I have a max on 10k words, 13-15 pages max (depending on format) just because of the size of the project. If you want to hire me as the primary writer for a longer project, we can negotiate and draw up a contract so both parties are protected with credit; simply contact me so we can talk.

DETAILS:

OCs and fancharacters welcome! I do fanfics and original fiction. I will write for fandoms I feel comfortable/knowledgeable about (Movies, TV shows, Video Games, Anime/Cartoons, Manga/Comics... ie: Miraculous Ladybug, Digimon, Transformers, Voltron:LD, SDGF, Disney films, Ghibli Studio movies, Marvel, DC comics, etc). OCs require more details and clear direction/vision from the client, it's better if I have some sample art and writing so I can get into their heads and world. Feel free to ask about the fandoms! I will give you an honest answer on whether or not I feel comfortable writing in that fandom/canon. (If I do not know the series, you will have to educate me and I'll do my best to consult the series' wiki and look up videos, but this adds time and cost due to research)

My pricing structure is as follows: $0.01 (one cent) per word, minimum of $5. (For example, a 400-word commission will cost $5 as will a 500-word commission. A 2,000-word commission will cost $20, a 10,000-word commission $100, and so on.) I have a maximum length limit of 10,000 words per commission, unless a long term project. This is mostly due to scheduling restrictions I must deal with.

Scripts - Prose to Comic Adaption & Comic Script

Do you have a writing project you need help with adapting for comic? I can team up with you to help break down your writing to more coherent script type writing, removing the prose clutter. Depending on the complexity shots can be broken down to just a few panels or end up spread over 3-4 pages for pacing vs how'd read as a story. Please email/note me for consultations and details to work out per-page/a bundle deal as it varies on what I have to work with.

*Examples I have are from a script I originally wrote as prose, converted it to script and gave it to an artist I commissioned:

Pg1. *Establishing shot (city scenery): [Paris, France] Night time, lamp posts are lit. Panel 2: The lights flicker as large shadow shoots past.

Pn3 (turned into pg 2): *Long shot/medium shot: BLACKWARGREYMON, shown as a shadow, stumbles back as a shadowy giant humanoid dinosaur, Tuskmon, swipes at it. (The shapes are shadowed, implied identity but still a bit mysterious.) [Artist took liberties to change some movements]

Pg2 (turned into pg 3). TUSKMON as dinosaur shaped shadow with pupil-less eyes roars/snarls, leaping at its retreating opponent (BlackWarGreymon) shouting- TUSKMON: Panzer Knuckle! BLACKWARGREYMON defends by backhanding the shadow opponent TUSKMON w/ his gauntlet.

1. What was the last picture you took with your phone? Link?

How Pokemon Go added visual differences to certain Pokemon and others not so much... but then for Wobbuffet it's so uncreative and unsightly... just....

They (Nintendo) put LIPSTICK on the female. (Apparently it's been this way since Gen 4 but I haven't played since Gen 3)

2. What is your perfect pizza?

Ohohohoo.... Thick crust that is light and fluffy but still has the right amount of crunch on the outside, not burned underneath, with cheese done right not overcooked but nice a gooey but not super, covered by various meat (ground beef, Canadian bacon, pepperoni/salami) and veggies like olives, bell peppers, red onions, olives..... This is the second time I've wanted pizza within a short period of time. If any one visits me in my area I'll treat you to the pizza I'm talking about.

3. If you could've personally witnessed anything, what would you want to have seen?

Oooh there are so many amazing historical events that have unfolded without pictures or proper documentation.... One that comes to mind is the first World's Fair, The Great Exhibition in 1851. All the amazing things they had on display there must have breathtaking at the time and probably still marvel worthy today! I love history and creation/artsy things. Though honestly if we want to talk about fiction... if I could witness the creation of Narnia in The Magician's Nephew that would have been something (given it's based on the actual Creation, which would have been amazing to witness too).

4. What question do you hate to answer?

"Did you draw that!?" It's partly rhetorical but also genuine and it just drives me up the wall because WHY ASK and namely when it comes from my family. My mom says it out of curiosity/exclamation and also being blown away at what I do but it's just annoying because I find it partly insulting. But that's just my temperamental sensitive butt being cranky. Also the "How's the job search going" which I think is mutual for many of our generation.

5. What is the habit you are most proud of breaking, or wanting to break?

I have a bad habit of mumbling or talking too fast which isn't good when you do voice acting or a lot of speaking. I'm trying to be more conscious about it and slow it down and pronounce things more clearly but it's a 20+ year habit and I get lazy when I talk so I mumble or blend words together due to talking fast. So going to break that one day!

6. What's your favorite holiday, and why?

Christmas I think and not for the whole "I get multiple gifts, hehehe" I like it because of the time you get off to spend with friends and family, and the reason for the season (I'm talking about actual CHRISTmas) and just the smell of pine/evergreens when you have a live tree in your house. I don't live in an area where it's obviously 'wintertime' with snow and such, it just gets cold and rainy. Also Christmas dinner/lunch is always enjoyable ;D Otherwise Halloween is close because candy and also some of the costumes are really cute and cool!

7. What do you think is the greatest invention of all time?

Well so many inventions pivotal to women's hygiene and health is a big stepping stone which I think they're ALL the greatest inventions, like pads and birth control. Vaccines in general that prevent so many deaths that took babies and older people, like polio, scarlet fever and others. (don't talk to me conspiracies about that, especially when anyone who has gotten a vaccine for any disease doesn't die by contracting the actual disease).

8. What was your favorite toy (or series of toys) growing up?

Hmm... anything that was animals so like animal figures from Barbie or like horse figures, stuffed animals... I didn't really hyper-focus on one toy in particular. THOUGH, I didn't own them but a neighbor did, I thought the Pegasus/unicorn figures from Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders (known outside of the states as "Princess Starla") were the best things EVER (Moondance and Sunstar). They're still so pretty and fun looking I remember wanting them so badly as a kid. I mean look this, Moondance, it's one of my favorite color schemes and plus she's so cool:

9. Using one word, how would you describe your family?

Loving, my family is very tolerate and patient with my various antics and dreams. In their love they are very nurturing and supportive and want the best for me, and push me to be a proper adult but don't beat me over the head with stuff.

10. What conspiracy theory do you think is most credible (or most interesting)?

I'm so out of touch with conspiracies I only know ones like "Area 51" and "Faked Moon Landing"... though I guess the conspiracy theory (now proven I think?) is who popped JFK off was the mafia due to the family making their money during the Prohibition and having mob ties. The reason why they went after him was because he cracked down on the mob, double-crossing them, and not long after he started the crack down he was sniped.

11. What's your favorite movie quote?

Oh man I have so many I remember randomly, but one I'm particularly fond of:
"Your small minds are musclebound with suspicion. That's because the only exercise you ever get is jumping to conclusions." -The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (1947)

12. Who was your worst teacher, and why?

Ooooh man... Well I had one P.E. teacher who was more like a drill sergeant and he would scream at us and always have this intense look on his face. Given this was in 5th grade but he did P.E. from 5th-HS I believe. Anyways he thought we were all sass-pants or something and wouldn't take it easy on us like heaven forbid we actually have fun, we weren't even really crazy. WELL one time one of my sister's classmates was having cramps or something/having a bad day and needed a break and he screamed at her to get her butt moving/suck it up (CLASSIC thing he said) or something along those lines and my sister, in the 8th grade, basically told him to be nicer/he didn't have to yell and so he gave her detention for talking back to him. Thankfully to say the next year I got a new SUPER NICE PE teacher I LOVED to death and he was my PE teacher through HS graduation; he was the complete opposite and he's one of my favorite teachers.
Otherwise worse teacher I had in scaring the pants off me and stressing me out was a professor in college. My other classmates had no problem with him pretty much, but he was so abrasive and cynical plus tough on grading I was afraid I wouldn't pass and this course was EXPENSIVE. (He started us all at a 'C' and we had to raise our grade, if you got a 68 or below you failed). So yeah that class gave me insomnia and a sleeping disorder for 2+ months and I lost like 15 pounds and sleep for that long. I was able to pass the class but I just don't do good with that type of teaching, given he taught good things he just was so tough grading and held me at a higher standard than I was capable of at the time (His remark: "You've been attending this college for a year now, you should be able to render this EASILY!" But I skipped a few classes due to my testing out so I'd only been at that college for like 5 months...) So yeah, bad teacher relationship wise (he did help me personally a few times) but he did teach good pointers, I just had a hard time replicating/remembering (given this was over a 8 week course).

13. Which of the Seven Dwarfs is most like you?

I guess "Doc" because he does malapropisms which I tend to do due to my dyslexia and I do try to maintain some type of order though I'm not the leadertype. Otherwise I guess a close second with "Bashful" since I can be really shy and quiet, fumbling over my words and then just go quiet but I'm known to be really sweet at times.

I got tagged to share 8 facts of an OC by

who chose Tory, my Digimon OC for an original universe/story. So if you want to learn more about an OC of mine proceed forth! (I actually plan on finishing a newer picture of her hopefully by the middle of this year. Been busy with freelance work)

Tory Hemsway was originally created for a contest for an original Digimon universe. I'd already designed my Digimon OC Nilocrocmon and it only seemed fitting to make a human partner who could celebrate the culture my digimon was inspired by. I realized I was sadly, if not shamefully, lacking in diversity with my characters so I settled on her ethnicity to add more diversity in the fan-made Digimon universe and my own string of OCs. Also being Nilocrocmon is based on the Nile crocodile AND Egyptian culture it only made sense to make her of African decent since Egyptians of the early to middle kingdom (if not longer) were purely African.
Her build/facial features were inspired by Nicole Beharie, who's in Sleepy Hollow _{Do not watch past Season 2. If you watch Season 3 stop after a certain point, believe me. Do not watch the last episode.}. Tory's original attire was just a business suit, which is classic for the Agents of where she works. Her casual wear (I have yet to post but have commissions of, see image below) is inspired by Lyndie Greenwood's character, Jenny's attire in the same series. I wanted a "can relax/look everyday/explore" look that wasn't the cliche dated 'Archaeologist from the 1800s/1900s.'
Tory's interest in ancient Egyptian culture partly stems from my own interest, namely from when I was in 5th-6th grade. I was fascinated by the pyramids, hieroglyphics and mummies. I mostly blame by one classmate who was TOTALLY engrossed and at the time wanted to be an archeologist. At least now I can look up stuff more in depth for more accuracy.
Tory's name is inspired by real life people. However unlike the real Tory I knew as a kid, Tory's name is just Tory, not short for Victoria. Also her last name was inspired by Chris and Liam Hemsworth, but I tweaked it to be unique/not exact (I'm sure there is a Hemsway surname?) In a way I sorta did it with the intent of having a tailor ancestor, but it also ties into her character (Hem, not the cloth: surround and restrict the space or movement of) in regards to her phobia, but finding a way through/out.
Tory attended a co-ed boarding school in Britain until she was ten, when her mother died. Her father who was a renown archeologist pulled her out to take her along with him on his expeditions since he wanted to maximize family time and keep her close. Her education after that was all private studies and basically being home schooled on the road. Her desired occupation is Archeologist, specializing in Egyptology with Anthropology as her minor. Her favorite sport in school was track, though she prefers running and rock climbing due to the nature of her field/interest.
Tory suffers from claustrophobia due to being trapped alone in a small space in crumbling ruins. Her fear grows greater the smaller a room is; it gets worse if she can't even pace its length. If she is stuck in a small space with limited movement, such as a closet, she'll have a panic attack. Should she ever have to crawl through something small say a vent she'd probably hyperventilate and faint before she even tried.
Tory is a hands on learner at best. She likes getting down in the dirt to explore and experience things. She can endure traditional lectures, but visual aid AND actually experimenting while learning does her best. Kinetic leaner! She has a great memory for recalling factoid stuff and objects she's seen, but it's not quite a photographic memory.
Tory doesn't mind doing reports/paperwork but would rather be in action than writing; Reading is no problem for her. Most of her dislike for paperwork, especially extensive, is mainly due to her partner Nilo. Thanks to Nilocrocmon's habit of snacking on anything he can get his claws on, namely files, paperwork and digital data, this means Tory has sometimes double if not triple the work cut out for her. After about of month of dealing with these antics she learned to make multiple copies and have backups in various places, but Nilo still does some damage. (The things you do for love)
